Spring Gardens and Oldbury Road Car Parks sit in the centre of the ancient market town of Tewkesbury. The town features many notable and well preserved medieval and Tudor buildings, with Tewkesbury Abbey being the most famous.
LILC were approached in 2020 to replace the existing Sodium streetlights and floodlights with energy saving LED fittings. Spread out around the town, are 4 other small car parks that service the visitors and residents of the medieval town, and which were also included in the lighting upgrade project.
The project objectives were to reduce maintenance costs, reduce energy consumption and improve the lighting for a new CCTV system being deployed in the car parks.
The car parks were all surveyed in the winter of 2019 and following budgetary approval with the installation starting in July 2020. Using a combination of Indo Lighting’s AIR1 and AIR2 streetlighting, as well as floodlighting from CREE, a phased program of installation was coordinated by LILC together with our local team of electricians.
The project was complicated by a number of residents concerned about light pollution and glare. Working with Tewkesbury BC, the Town Councillors and the LED manufacturers, our design team were able to implement mitigating measures to solve all the concerns.
Tewkesbury BC Property Manager was delighted with the results, as well as the service—“Thank you so much for all your professional advice and guidance. Your patience with our many queries and swift responses have been appreciated and you clearly put your customer first. Your aide has been invaluable in lighting two of our busiest (one being the largest) car parks we maintain. The end result is absolutely fantastic lighting, providing our users with safe, well illuminated access.”
